What is Avid?
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college and career readiness program designed to support students in reaching their full academic potential. AVID focuses on developing strong study skills, organization, critical thinking, collaboration, and writing strategies to help students succeed in rigorous coursework and prepare for life after high school.
What is the AVID Elective?
The AVID Elective is a high school class that supports students who are motivated to attend college and are willing to challenge themselves academically. In this course, students learn note-taking strategies (such as Cornell Notes), time management, goal setting, and test preparation skills. The AVID class also provides students with opportunities to learn about colleges and universities, tutorials, scholarship guidance, guest speaker presentations, information on admissions requirements, and college campus visits.
